This shield necklace, fit for Celtic Royalty, was a real labor of love. This striking piece combines intricate detail with bold hammered swirls of copper wire, making it a real statement piece. I have used a large Lapis Lazuli oval cabochon in the center piece and echoed this on the end of the chain either side.
The central detail is made by forming an outer frame from heavy gauge copper wire, which I have hand forged, then hammered on the edge of the loops and swirls, adding a nice flow to the wire. I have then sanded the wire smooth. I have then used a combination of coiling, binding and weaving to secure the whole piece together.
The center stone is a 45mm x 35mm smooth oval Lapis Lazuli cabochon, which I have set in a Viking knit bezel, creating a delicate lace effect around the outside of the stone.
The handmade chain is created using double Viking knit, with copper wire. The chain is finished with handmade end caps, smooth Lapis Lazuli rondelles and handmade hook clasp.
The chain sections are 5' long. The central detail is 6 1/2' wide and 1 7/8' tall The necklace is 20' long in total.
