This design was inspired by Medusa, her serpent hair is represented in the frame of the centre piece, which snakes it's way, gently forming a curve. She was the daughter of Okeanos (the ocean) so I have used deep blue Lapis Lazuli stones.
The centre stone is a large tear-drop shaped Lapis Lazuli cabochon which is 1 1/4'' tall and 7/8' at it's widest point), which I have set using the Viking knitting technique, this is surrounded by a large frame of copper wire, which I have hand shaped and hammered. The frame continues to snake it's way and I have attached 2 Lapis Lazuli drops either side of the main stone, which I have wrapped with copper wire. I have embellished the top of each stone with copper and Lapis Lazuli beads of varying sizes. The centre piece is 2 3/4' at it's widest point, 1 1/2' tall and the whole piece is curved slightly by 1/8'.
This centre piece hangs from 2 Viking knit chains, which are finished with handmade wire cones and a hook clasp. The total length of the necklace is 18'
I have oxidised this piece to highlight the detail.
